The longevity of a chainsaw depends on what operating fluids you use. Particular attention is paid to fuels and lubricants - experts recommend using STIHL motor oil, which was developed specifically for 4- and 2-stroke engines, providing a sufficient amount of oil film even during long-term operation. Separately, you can buy chain lubricant oil, which also meets all declared quality standards.
How long do STIHL lubricants last? – the manufacturer produces several series and indicates the timing. We will briefly talk about each of them and note the suitability of the products.
What trimmer oils should I use?
Today there are few people left who use a regular scythe in their garden. This “old-fashioned” method practically never occurs. And many already have no idea how to handle it, sharpen it and rivet it. With the development of technology, devices called trimmers appeared.
There are two main types of such devices. These are gasoline and electric. From the name it is clear that their main difference is the power source. Each type has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of gasoline ones is the absence of a power cord, which does not limit the owner’s movement around the site during work. The electric one needs a 220 V network for power. There is no way to do this without an extension cord, which will constantly get in the way and get under your feet.
A modern fuel-powered trimmer, thanks to the presence of various replaceable heads, has transformed from an ordinary scythe into a small-scale mechanization tool with many functions. By installing the appropriate attachment, it will not be difficult for the owner to form a crown for shrubs on his personal plot. In snowy winters it can be used as a snow blower. trimmer heads itself
does not take much time and can be done either with or without a tool.
Advantages and disadvantages of gasoline trimmers
Thus, to summarize the above, it is necessary to note the main advantages and disadvantages of gasoline trimmers. The advantages include:
The best place to store your trimmer
The disadvantages include:
- greater weight;
- The amount of noise produced during operation is greater than that of electric ones. Despite this, the number of gasoline trimmers in summer cottages is only increasing.
Tips for choosing
Now let's try to understand how to choose quality oil
for
trimmer
running on gasoline. The main feature that you need to pay attention to will be the alkalinity number. This moment eliminates the oxidation of parts that experience friction and slows down their deformation as much as possible. The more this composition is used, the faster it loses alkalinity and becomes more oxidized. The optimal acidity indicator (PH) is a value of at least 8-9 units.
The second important factor, which also has a serious impact on the operation of a gasoline trimmer, is the viscosity of the oil. This characteristic determines the ability to use the device at different temperatures. Summer brands of oils begin to thicken even with a minimal drop in temperature.
The third point, the importance of which should not be underestimated, is the flash point. This indicator should not be less than 225 degrees. Otherwise, the composition will burn out very quickly and the load on the piston group will begin to increase, which will cause its accelerated wear. In addition, oil for a 4-stroke engine is not suitable for a 2-stroke engine. Namely, the latter type of motor is used in the vast majority of gas mowers.
If we talk about manufacturers, we can create a small rating that will allow you to navigate the compositions offered by various manufacturers. For example, Stihl offers high-quality synthetic and mineral oils that have already proven themselves to be an excellent solution at any time of the year.
Shell Helix Ultra oil is considered very good. Experts note its high characteristics and excellent alkalinity and viscosity. In addition, products from brands such as Oleo-Mac, Motul, Hammerflex, Echo are considered worthy. If we talk about products of domestic brands, then you should pay attention to Lukoil oil. Its price is several times lower than its foreign analogues, but at the same time it has high quality and good technical characteristics.
Purpose
Motor oil is a special mixture consisting of a solvent and additives that reduce friction. They form a certain viscosity and do not allow the composition to thicken when the temperature drops. Typically, oils are specially painted in different colors: green, red or blue. This allows them not to be confused.
Keep in mind that they may differ in composition, so oil for gasoline trimmers will be labeled “for garden equipment.” In addition, it may also differ in marking: “2T” or “4T”. The first is two-stroke oil, which is poured into the corresponding engine. And the second is intended for pouring into the crankcase.
Varieties
The oil that is poured into the engine may differ in the method of production. According to this criterion, it can be:
- mineral - this type is obtained by processing petroleum products;
- synthetic - it is obtained by processing or synthesizing gas;
- semi-synthetic - this type has more advanced characteristics due to the introduction of synthetic-based components into it.
Oil for lawn mowers refers to compositions intended for use in air-cooled engines that have a combustion chamber volume of 50-200 cubic centimeters. In addition, any two-stroke oil
may differ from its analogues in additives that give it certain additional characteristics. They come in the following types.
- Anti-wear. The main task of the oil will be to reduce wear of parts during operation of the device.
- Anti-oxidation. They do not allow oxidation to occur and make it possible to maintain the performance characteristics of the oil for a long time.
- Anti-corrosion. Their task is to prevent corrosion from forming on engine parts.
- Friction modifiers. These additives can significantly reduce the coefficient of friction.
Recently, when purchasing oil for diluting with gasoline, users are very often faced with the fact that special letter abbreviations are applied to the canisters. These designations are made within the framework of the API classification. Let's consider what types of oils exist in accordance with it.
- TA is used for air-cooled lawn mowers with an engine capacity of no more than 50 cubic centimeters. It can be used not only for mowers, but also for mopeds, lawn mowers and other types of equipment. For a gasoline trimmer, this is the optimal solution.
- TB is used to refuel a chainsaw, scooter, moped or motorcycle whose engine capacity does not exceed 200 cubic centimeters. Can also be used for refilling petrol trimmers.
- TC is suitable for diluting with gasoline and pouring into a snowmobile, motorcycle and other types of equipment.
- TD is intended for refueling boats, yachts and hoverboards.

Motor oil and shelf life under different conditions
But in addition to this classification, other letter designations of the FA-FD type are often found. It should be said that API is an American standard that is used in Europe. But there is a discrepancy between European smoke emission standards and American ones. For this reason, additional letter designations should be taken into account.
- FA can be used in states where the law requires minimum exhaust emissions into the atmosphere. When using oil with this marking, subtle smoke may be emitted.
- FB - can be used in countries where restrictions on smoke and gas emissions are much stricter. In this case, virtually no smoke will be released.
- FC - smoke appears here with a transparent color that the human eye cannot notice.
- FD is a special category of oils for 2-stroke engines; they do not create smoke at all. They have increased chemical indicators. Typically, this oil is used for mixing with gasoline and subsequent refueling of boats and yachts.
In addition, oils come in two more categories:
- Selfmix;
- Premix.
In the first case, this will mean that it is necessary to carry out independent mixing, which does not require shaking, and in the second case, this will also need to be done.
Oil for gasoline trimmers: types and recommendations for use

- Tips for choosing
- How to use?
Gasoline trimmers are one of the most popular devices for cutting grass. They are easy to use, mobile, allow a person not to depend on an outlet and show excellent results in the places where they are used. But for stable operation of a gasoline trimmer, high-quality consumables are required. In particular, we are talking about gasoline and oil. It is the last component that we will talk about in this article.
Requirements
High-quality oil that can be poured into a gasoline trimmer must meet a number of requirements and standards to ensure reliable operation of the device and its performance. The oil must:
- provide increased wear resistance for various elements (in particular, the gearbox is especially susceptible to this);
- ensure the lowest possible formation of smoke and exhaust gases;
- do not allow premature ignition;
- mix well with gasoline when exposed to low temperatures;
- have good viscosity and fluidity in different temperature ranges;
- be as safe as possible in terms of environmental impact.
As already mentioned, the oil formulation for a two-stroke engine will be different from that for a four-stroke engine. It has higher power, which is why its fuel is obtained by mixing a certain amount of gasoline and oil. For each lawn mower the ratio will be different. You can find out its meaning in the instructions for the device. These proportions must be observed with maximum accuracy. When adding additives, it is necessary to take into account the type of motor.
If mineral oils are used, then the mixing should occur somewhere in the ratio of 1: 25, 30 or 35, depending on the type. If we are talking about a synthetic analogue, then the proportion will be 1: 50 or 80. That is, a certain amount of oil dissolves in bulk gasoline.
Which oil to choose for outboard motors
For outboard motors, the oil is specified by each manufacturer. Refer to the operating and maintenance instructions to find out the type of lubricant used. When choosing oil, you should first consider these recommendations.
For outboard engines, select oils labeled Outboard Motor Oil. You can purchase them in specialized stores.
When you fill the engine with oil for outboard motors, the boat will last a long time without the need for repairs.
Shell
Shell Nautilus Premium Outboard oil is a good choice. This product is designed to provide maximum protection for 2-stroke outboard motors. Thanks to innovative technology, Shell Nautilus Premium Outboard exceeds the performance standards of all outboard motor manufacturers.
Motul
This oil is available on a mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic basis and is considered one of the best in its category. Negative reviews about this oil relate only to the cost - it is quite high. Performance qualities are not satisfactory.
An inexpensive, high-quality and very popular option for 2-stroke outboard engines is the Chinese-made PATRIOT SUPER ACTIVE 2T oil. Despite the very budget price, this product has very good properties. There is almost complete combustion in the cylinders and little soot formation. It is used for various equipment, including outboard motors.
This semi-synthetic product has excellent performance properties. It can be purchased from official dealers and retail chains. Provides minimal carbon deposits and complete combustion in the engine.
G-Wave
Manufacturer: Gazpromneft. Semi-synthetic motor oil for two-stroke engines of boats and jet skis.
Complies with NMMA TC-W3 performance class.
Made from imported components. According to consumer reviews, it is a good and affordable option for boat engines.
These oils are provided for general overview. There are no better or worse among them. Each consumer has his own impression of the products and each chooses them according to his preferences.
For some, budget is more important, for others accessibility, for others - ideal quality.
When selecting, the most important thing is to choose oil specifically for two-stroke engines. As a rule, synthetics are preferable because they allow the liquid to be used in lower concentrations, which balances out its higher cost.
For cheaper engines, it is advisable to use a higher quality mixture with improved protective properties.
How to use?
Information on the proportions of oil use was given above. Let us say right away that you should not deviate from the indicated values and dilute gasoline by eye. In the best case, you just need to change the oil, and in the worst case, engine breakdown cannot be avoided.
It is also important to be able to prepare the mixture correctly. You cannot pour it into a gas tank. It is better to pour the oil into a special container that already contains gasoline. A plastic mineral water bottle is perfect for this. It is very important here that it is clean, which is why beer or milk bottles will not work. And it is better that it be liter or two liter, since to calculate how much
pouring oils into a 1.5-liter or 1.25-liter bottle will be difficult for many. You will also need to have a syringe on hand, which will serve as a dosimeter. It is best to take a regular medical one with 10 or more cubic meters.
Now we will explain step by step how to make good oil for a gasoline trimmer.
- First, you should find out exactly what type of oil is required for a particular model of scythe, and also find out the exact ratio of gasoline and oil to create the mixture.
- Then you need to fill the container. The container should not be filled completely with gasoline, because there should still be room for oil;
- Now we fill the syringe with the required amount of 2-stroke oil and pour it into a bottle of gasoline. You cannot do the opposite, otherwise all the ingredients will need to be replaced, and the mixture will need to be made again.
- Close the bottle with a lid and stir. It is important not to forget that you need to stir the mixture if there are words Premix on the bottle of oil. If it says Selfmix, then after mixing the substances everything is poured into the tank.
Now all that remains is to refuel the gasoline trimmer, and you can carry out the necessary work.
To learn how to choose oil for gasoline trimmers, see the following video.
How to refill the trimmer
The prepared mixture of gasoline and oil can be stored
no more than 3 months (pure gasoline is stored less). Dilute the fuel in an amount that is enough for several uses of the trimmer. In general, prepare:
- gasoline and oil, which is suitable for two-stroke engines with an air cooling system;
- metal canister and mixing container;
- respirator;
- gloves.
Adding oil to gasoline
Dilution instructions:
- Pour 1 liter of gasoline into a container of suitable volume and add 1/2 of the required amount of oil.
- Stir carefully, being at a good distance from sources of open flame.
- Add the remaining half of the oil to the fuel and mix everything again.
Trimmer refill process
General recommendations for refueling a trimmer with a two- or four-stroke engine:
- Place the fuel tank so that the cap is on top, then fill in the required amount of fuel.
- Do not overfill the fuel tank. This will lead to one of the problems: overflow into the intake pipe and fuel filter, ignition of the fuel or engine breakdown.
- Try to pour the mixture so that it does not spill. To do this, you can use a watering can.
- If you do spill fuel, wipe it up immediately. Dispose of cleaning material; do not accumulate it indoors - it is a fire hazard.
- Start-up of the device should begin after the fuel canister has been removed to a distance of more than 10 m.
- If there was a long break between uses of the mower, be sure to drain the remaining old fuel.
Storing gasoline and oil
It is worth mentioning two-stroke engines separately. As you know, for them to work it is necessary to mix gasoline with oil. This mixture is prepared in advance and stored in a tank or canister. It is simply impossible to determine the exact amount of fuel. So often after finishing the work there is a ready-made mixture of it with oil. It is worth proceeding from the rule - its shelf life is less than that of individual pure products.
Although there are repeatedly confirmed facts that such a mixture with gasoline oil for two-stroke engines works even after a sufficiently long period of time after preparation, it is not recommended to store it for a long time in a canister or tank. Common practice is that six months is considered normal. The main thing is that the components of the mixture are of good quality.
Gasoline is one of the main concerns of the driver. He is constantly interested in where he can find high-quality fuel and how to survive the constant rise in fuel prices? In order to somehow protect themselves from such problems, many try to create a small supply of their own in a canister in the garage. However, long-term storage of gasoline requires compliance with certain rules. When you do them, it is quite possible to create your own fuel reserves, and for a while get rid of constant worries about fuel.
Other materials
Any two-stroke chainsaw engine runs on a mixture of gasoline and oil; accordingly, how long it will last depends on the quality and correct mixture of these components. Also in chainsaws it is necessary to lubricate the bar and chain, and the quality of the lubrication is not the last factor influencing the duration of use of these parts of the chainsaw. In this article we will talk about the oils that Shtil produces and recommends for use not only on chainsaws of its own production.
Stihl engineers develop oils that are optimally suited for all two-stroke engines installed on Stihl chainsaws and trimmers and more. The Stihl line of lubricants for two-stroke engines includes several product options:
- Stihl HP;
- Stihl HP Ultra;
- Stihl HP S
Stihl HP review
Shtil HP is a chainsaw lubricant designed to meet high quality requirements and is intended to lubricate the internal parts of the engine during operation. It is made on a mineral basis and has good combustion performance (has a low level of emissions of harmful substances during combustion).
The original Stihl HP is red and comes in original Stihl packaging.
It comes in several packaging options, the most popular of which is a one-liter bottle with a built-in dispenser. You can also find Stihl HP in canisters of five, ten and fifty-five liters.
The smallest packaging of Stihl HP, which is convenient to use in cases where you need to prepare only one liter of fuel mixture, is a twenty-gram plastic bottle.
The company also produces one hundred gram Stihl HP bottles, which can be used to prepare five liters of fuel mixture.
The shelf life, if stored in a closed container, is 4 years.
Stihl HP Ultra review
Unlike regular Shtil HP oil, HP Ultra is designed for high engine loads during operation and is recommended for use on professional chainsaws. This oil is synthetic. To ensure that consumers do not confuse diluted fuel, it has a green color; accordingly, a ready-made mixture of gasoline with Stihl HP Ultra also has a greenish tint.
There are only two packages of this oil. This is Stihl HP Ultra 100 ml and 1 liter with dispenser.
The cost of Stihl HP Ultra is almost twice the price of Stihl HP and for this reason it is less popular in our country.
The Stihl HP Ultra has a shelf life of four years.
HP Super
Designed for high-performance and four-stroke engines made using 2-MIX technology. The characteristics are slightly worse than those of the HP Ultra, so at the moment the HP Super is not available on the shelves of official Shtil dealers.
Fuel mixture for two-stroke engines
Trimmers that are equipped with a two-stroke engine do not have a separate system designed to supply oil to lubricate the rubbing parts. For this reason, such devices should not be refueled with pure gasoline, but with a mixture of fuel and motor oil. The latter should be specifically designed for two-stroke engines. The use of automotive engine fluid will lead to premature engine failure.
Preparation of fuel mixture for two-wheel engines
A lawn mower with a two-stroke engine needs to be refueled with AI-92 gasoline. When using AI-95, overheating of the engine and uneven operation of the unit may occur. You need to mix gasoline and oil in a ratio of 50:1, where 50 is fuel and 1 is oil. It turns out that 1 liter of fuel will require 20 ml of oil.
If the motor is worn out or the tool is working under high load, then the proportion is 25:1. If there is not enough lubrication, scoring will appear on the cylinder walls and piston surface. Then the piston ring will be destroyed, causing the engine to seize. An excess is not so critical, but it can lead to the formation of soot. The piston ring will become coked, which will reduce the power of the device.

Proportions of oil and gasoline for the fuel mixture
Main question
It consists in maintaining the proportions of oil not gasoline for the chainsaw
. An extra first ingredient will cause carbon deposits to form on the spark plugs and pistons. Excessive gasoline causes scuffing on the pistons, which will cause rapid engine failure. The exact proportions are indicated by domestic manufacturers themselves.
"Husqvarna" not Stihl recommend taking one hundred ml of oil
four liters of gasoline. This is typical for tools with motor power up to 1.5 kW. At higher power the proportion should be 1/50. Approximately, when answering the question “How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw?” It is recommended to proceed from the following proportions: 20-50 ml of oil per liter of gasoline.
As you can see, different domestic manufacturers have different approaches to maintaining the proportions of oil and gasoline. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the instructions that come with the specific brands of tools in question.
Mixing must be carried out in special canisters, which are marked with measuring divisions and do not have two holes: one for oil
, the other is gasoline. The components are poured into it, the container is tilted and does not mix when the lids are closed. There should be no drops of water or other solid particles in the mixture being prepared.
However, these containers have a minimum mark of one liter, so for smaller volumes you can make the measure yourself. In order to choose oil for a chainsaw, how much oil to pour into gasoline for a chainsaw. For this purpose, you can take a plastic bottle with a capacity of 0.5-1 liters. There we fill in water one hundred and two ml (up to eight hundred and sixteen ml) using a measuring cup. For chainsaws, but what about oil for two-stroke but water mixture shelf life. After pouring each portion, a mark is made, approximately which the numbers from two to eighteen are written in increments of 2. Pursuing the goal of measuring the oil
We use a syringe without a needle with a volume of 10-20 ml. A step of one hundred and two ml of water provides a proportion of 1/50. The proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw is very important chainsaws with. For other proportions, it must be changed accordingly.
The finished composition is stored for less than one month. It's even better to use it up over a few days. This is due to the fact that oxidation processes occur in a personal computer, which change its chemical composition. The ideal mixture consumption is one minute. If the engine breaks down due to overexposure to fuel, this will be considered a non-warranty event. If at the end of the season there is a prepared mixture left in the chainsaw, then you need to turn off the engine so as not to remove its remains.
Purpose
Motor oil is a special mixture consisting of a solvent and additives that reduce friction. They form a certain viscosity and do not allow the composition to thicken when the temperature drops. Typically, oils are specially painted in different colors: green, red or blue. This allows them not to be confused.

The first is two-stroke oil, which is poured into the corresponding engine. And the second is intended for pouring into the crankcase.
Choosing a brand of gasoline for trimmers
You need to select the brand of gasoline for motor mowers taking into account the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you do not follow them, the motor will soon break down. Often to refill the trimmer's
Unleaded fuel with an octane rating of 92 or 95 is used.
Gasoline for fuel mixture
Filling the trimmer with AI-80 gasoline can lead to damage to the device due to its low technical characteristics. Please note that fuel can be stored
no more than 60 days, but it is better to reduce this period.
Polyethylene canisters are not used for storage, as static electricity will occur upon contact with the inner walls. An accidental spark will cause an explosion. Although, there are special plastic canisters marked “flame”.

Mineral oil Stihl HP
A popular type of oil that can be purchased at an affordable price. Available in different packaging, most often they take a one-liter bottle, it has a dispenser for easy filling. For one-time use, a 20-gram bottle is suitable for preparing 1 liter of fuel. Unused oil is red in color.
The shelf life is 4 years, subject to proper conditions - storage in an airtight container, in a dry and dark place. The oil can be used immediately by unpacking the bottle and adding the required volume to gasoline.
Varieties
The oil that is poured into the engine may differ in the method of production. According to this criterion, it can be:
- mineral - this type is obtained by processing petroleum products;
- synthetic - it is obtained by processing or synthesizing gas;
- semi-synthetic - this type has more advanced characteristics due to the introduction of synthetic-based components into it.
Oil for lawn mowers refers to compositions intended for use in air-cooled engines that have a combustion chamber volume of 50-200 cubic centimeters. In addition, any two-stroke oil may differ from its analogues in terms of additives that give it certain additional characteristics.

- TC is suitable for diluting with gasoline and pouring into a snowmobile, motorcycle and other types of equipment.
- TD is intended for refueling boats, yachts and hoverboards.
But in addition to this classification, other letter designations of the FA-FD type are often found. It should be said that API is an American standard that is used in Europe. But there is a discrepancy between European smoke emission standards and American ones. For this reason, additional letter designations should be taken into account.

In addition, oils come in two more categories:
In the first case, this will mean that it is necessary to carry out independent mixing, which does not require shaking, and in the second case, this will also need to be done.
Types of oils
Mineral oil is suitable for use. This is due to the fact that it has increased viscosity. These oils can be purchased from 113 rubles / l (TNK 2T).
Synthetic oil has excellent fluidity, which can be used in winter conditions at low temperatures, that is, throughout the year. It is mainly used for industrial chainsaws. This type is thermally stable and chemically stable. Their cost starts from 135 rubles / 0.2 liters (“Zubr-Expert”).
Requirements
High-quality oil that can be poured into a gasoline trimmer must meet a number of requirements and standards to ensure reliable operation of the device and its performance. The oil must:
- provide increased wear resistance for various elements (in particular, the gearbox is especially susceptible to this);
- ensure the lowest possible formation of smoke and exhaust gases;
- do not allow premature ignition;
- mix well with gasoline when exposed to low temperatures;
- have good viscosity and fluidity in different temperature ranges;
- be as safe as possible in terms of environmental impact.

Oil requirements
Oil for two-stroke outboard engines must meet special requirements determined by both operating conditions and environmental standards.
The main ones:
- High lubricating properties
- Increasing wear resistance of parts
- Good cleaning ability
- Preventing carbon deposits
- Low smoke level
- Preventing Pre-Ignition
- Good mixing with fuel at low temperatures
- High anti-corrosion properties
- Optimal viscosity and fluidity over a wide temperature range
- Complete combustion in cylinder
- Minimal impact on the surrounding water and air environment
How much oil to add to trimmer gasoline
Petrol mowers are a fairly common technique for controlling weeds in summer cottages, gardens, roads and housing and communal services. These devices have two more names - trimmer and brushcutter. These units differ in their engines. The more expensive ones have four-stroke engines, all the rest have two-stroke engines. Of course, the latter are the most popular among the population, since they are simpler in design, lighter in weight, and much cheaper than their four-stroke competitors. However, two-stroke models are inconvenient in that the fuel mixture for them must be prepared manually, maintaining a strict dosage between gasoline and oil. In four-stroke analogues, mixing of these components occurs automatically; you just need to fill the gas tank and oil tank with the appropriate substances. Let's consider the question of the correct refueling of two-stroke lawn mowers, since this determines how effective and long the operation of such a unit will be.

Does gasoline spoil during storage?
Like any body on Earth, hydrocarbons are prone to “aging” and deterioration of their characteristics because:
- Gasoline is volatile (i.e. it evaporates).
- Afraid of the light.
- The quality of the fuel can be affected by the additives in its composition, which can change the formula of the fuel if stored for a long time.
- It has been proven that the density of fuel also changes due to long-term storage.
- Exposure to external temperature (gasoline does not like temperature changes).
- One of the properties of gasoline is decomposition into fractions, although 10 years for this (in my opinion) will not be enough.
Standard proportions
First of all, you need to take into account the information that the manufacturer recommends, since if the brush cutter fails, you can present your claims to him, and not to a third-party source. If there are no instructions in the passport, and even more so if the passport is missing, then we recommend looking for another trimmer model from a more reliable seller.
For all other cases, when you have a model of a lawn mower in your hands and there is no way to find out its technical features, there are standard proportions of the most likely components of the fuel mixture for a two-stroke engine. Basically, these units use AI-92 gasoline and special synthetic oil, which contains a solvent for better mixing with fuel. This oil evaporates slowly and has the ability to burn completely in the cylinder without leaving soot.
The standard ratio of synthetic oil to gasoline is 1: 50. This means that 5 liters of gasoline require 100 ml of oil, and according to this, oil consumption per 1 liter of gasoline is 20 ml. Knowing the amount of oil required to dilute 1 liter of fuel, you can easily calculate any standards when preparing fuel for a trimmer. When using mineral oils, the standard ratio is most often 1:40. Therefore, 1 liter of fuel will require 25 ml of such oil, and 125 ml for a 5-liter canister.
When operating a lawn mower, it will not be difficult for a person who has little experience in operating such equipment to determine and adjust the actual amount of oil required for a particular model. You just need to pay attention to the exhaust gases (their color, the toxicity of the smell), the stability of the cycles, the heating of the engine and the developed power. More details about what consequences can be expected from incorrect mixing proportions of gasoline and oil are covered in another section of the article. There are variants of brush cutters that run on AI-95 gasoline. This should also be taken into account.
How long can mixture for two-stroke engines be stored?
Thanks in advance everyone!

quote: But some feed their motors even last year.
How long does the finished mixture last? With mineral oil - no more than two weeks With semi-synthetics - no more than a month With synthetics - up to three months
As I understand it, the main issue is the quality of the oil used.

I use Motyulev semi-synthetics. Small volumes of the mixture are sometimes stored for two or three months, but I have not noticed any problems with the engine because of this. There are 5 liters of a two-year mixture (waiting for disposal), in appearance it is no different from fresh, neither the color nor consistency has changed.

Based on my experience in operating motorcycles (Soviet), they can be stored for more than one year. Will anyone seriously argue that oil diluted with gasoline deteriorates faster? Or does gasoline deteriorate faster due to oil additives? No! Lighter fractions can simply evaporate from gasoline if it is not hermetically sealed. Close tightly and there will be no problems. One more thing - the mixture settles and the oil goes down. THIS IS EXACTLY WITH THIS WHAT IS JAMING OR SOOO (COG) RELATED TO - it’s just gasoline (drained from above) or excess oil (drained from below) that will go into the engine. You just need to shake the canister with the prepared mixture.

They tell us the opposite during training. The shelf life of pure gasoline is no more than months in a special container, then the additives that were in it degrade and fall out in the form of flakes of a red coating and other things, and the fuel mixture has a shelf life of even less, so they say do it as needed, use it later, do it again, isn’t this really such a complicated procedure

An attempt to close the carb flap leads to an increase in suction force and an increase in air leaks. When the mixture is so lean, it is extremely difficult to start the engine. Andrey, don’t be offended and don’t make yourself look like a complete layman, it’s very cool that you like to farm something, but remember if there is suction through the seals, this leads to a leaner mixture, as a result of which there is more air and less lubricant, hence overheating and scuffing when the piston is stuck, the engine usually does not start, let it be known to you, those who improve my qualifications or the Germans who also often practice classes can tell me, the rest are of course class but nothing about anything, and I’m telling you that your saw started after replacing the seals they cheated me like a sucker, or they just needed to get money for something, I don’t argue about happiness, you are 1000% right, so I usually count everything in full and as a rule they whine but they pay and the coolest thing is that they still come, the truth is that the arrogance is several times less and then everything is budgetary as it should be, and then the best luminaries

Requirements for raw materials
Gasoline used in the preparation of the mixture must be at least grade A-92. The ones used are AI-92 or also called AI-95. Term
their storage should not exceed three months. This is due to the fact that after its expiration, the mass fraction of resins in gasoline increases, which causes polymerization reactions to occur, which negatively affects the combustion chamber when a soot layer is formed. Gasoline is expected to be unleaded, since using the leaded variety will damage the engine.
Expiration dates
oils must also be observed. The exact ratio of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw with oil mixing. To prepare the mixture, use any high-quality two-stroke oils such as “Partner”, “Shtil” or “Husqvarna”. The choice of oil should be determined by the fact that it is impossible to use the latter for four-stroke engines of boats to prepare the required composition.
During the process of preparing the mixture, be sure to read the instructions for boosting the engine. The last indicator shows the ratio of volume and engine power and maximum speed).
Choosing a brand of gasoline for trimmers
You need to select the brand of gasoline for motor mowers taking into account the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you do not follow them, the motor will soon break down. Often, unleaded fuel with an octane rating of 92 or 95 is used to fill the trimmer's gas tank.
Mixing Rules
And now about how to properly mix the components. However, it would be more logical to start with an analysis of common, but absolutely unacceptable mistakes that many owners of this mowing unit “sin” with. The following actions are considered errors in mixing the fuel mixture.
- Adding oil to the fuel already filled into the gas tank of the lawn mower. In this way, it will not be possible to obtain a homogeneous fuel mixture. Perhaps it will work if you shake the trimmer for a long time. But it’s unlikely that anyone will do this, given the severity of the unit.
- First pour oil into the mixing container, and then add gasoline to it. Gasoline has a lower density than oil
, so if you pour it into oil, it will remain in the top layer, that is, natural mixing will not occur. Of course, it will be possible to mix it later, but it will take much more energy than if it were done the other way around - adding oil to poured gasoline. - Ignoring precise measuring instruments to take the required volumes of ingredients used. In other words, diluting the amount of oil or gasoline “by eye” is a bad habit when operating motorcycles.
- Take empty drinking water bottles to prepare the fuel mixture. Such containers are made of polyethylene that is too thin, which can be dissolved by gasoline.
Gasoline trimmers are ideal for garden maintenance due to their portability. These types of lawn mowers require periodic fuel changes. The choice of gasoline must be approached wisely. There is no need to save a lot on your purchase.
Preparation of fuel mixture for two-stroke engines
The video shows how to make a fuel mixture for two-stroke engines. Refueling mowers, chainsaws, etc.
Which oil to choose
If you are a regular chainsaw user and do not use it every day for 6-8 hours, and only work in the summer, then you can use a regular Stihl HP to prepare the fuel mixture for your chainsaw. The optimal ratio of price and quality of lubricant has made it popular among millions of users of power tools.
Stihl HP can be used to mix any two-stroke engine, including moped and boat engines.
How to refill the trimmer
The prepared mixture of gasoline and oil can be stored
no more than 3 months (pure gasoline is stored less). Dilute the fuel in an amount that is enough for several uses of the trimmer. In general, prepare:
- gasoline and oil
, which is suitable for two-stroke engines with an air cooling system; - metal canister and mixing container;
- respirator;
General recommendations for refilling the trimmer
with two or four stroke engine:

How long can gasoline with diluted oil be stored?
How long can you store gasoline with diluted oil for a trimmer or chainsaw??
Many serious (reputable, branded) manufacturers of various gasoline and garden equipment also produce fuel oil for them (for two-stroke engines).
Or they work closely with motor oil manufacturers.
These same manufacturers write about a shelf life of 14 days and no more.
Here you need to understand that they guarantee that nothing will happen to the diluted fuel mixture within 14 days.
But this does not mean that on the 15th day (this is for example) your trimmer or chainsaw will not start.
They will start and work, but there may be problems.
Problems can affect both the engine and the environment.
It is clear that manufacturers are hedging their bets and this figure can certainly be increased at least twice, that is, a month of storing the fuel mixture.
Of course, it must be stored correctly; if it is a canister with a diluted mixture, then we store it in a shaded place, the container is tightly closed.
Before pouring the mixture into the tank, be sure to shake the canister well.
And of course the proportions of oil and gasoline.
It is also important to remember that both gasoline and motor oil have a shelf life (expiration date).
The biggest mistake users make is leaving the diluted mixture in the tank for the winter; it’s definitely better not to use this mixture.
I would advise you to open the operating instructions for concert gasoline equipment; there is information there about the proportion and shelf life of the mixture.
There may be nuances, manufacturers are different.
And I would also like to advise you not to dilute “by eye”; it is better to use measuring containers (containers).
Many people don’t bother and use diluted gasoline until it runs out, that is, a season or even more after dilution. But as practice has shown, this is a bad experience. The gasoline engine performs much worse.
It is best to use it all at once after preparing the solution. But if you miscalculate a little, that’s okay. Nothing will happen to him this season. Well, to be more sure, the remains can be mixed with freshly diluted gasoline.
It will also be useful for you to read:
Basically, all users of two-stroke units are divided into three groups, each holding their own firm views on the question “how long can gasoline diluted with oil be stored?”
The first are those who strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions and do not use gasoline that was diluted more than two weeks ago.
The second are those who dilute a twenty-liter can of gasoline for the entire season, for example, from spring to autumn.
And still others (to which I include myself) who do not go to these extremes, believe that the shelf life of diluted gasoline can be a month.
Two-stroke engines are chainsaws, trimmers, boat engines and similar high-speed internal combustion engines running on a mixture of gasoline and oil. Due to the presence of the latter in gasoline, the crank mechanism is lubricated and the piston stroke in the cylinder is facilitated.
The share of oil in gasoline of many two-stroke engines (Stil, Husvarna) is only 2%. In a volumetric ratio, it looks like 1:50 - 1 share of oil + 50 shares of gasoline.
In general, I have been familiar with two-stroke engines since childhood - motorcycles, saws, boat engines. And it was from my own experience that I learned that diluted gasoline can be safely used for a month. Just store it in a dark, cool room so as not to speed up the decomposition process of additives.
It is better not to use AI-95 gasoline for saws. The best option is AI-92, it contains fewer additives that cause detonation and accelerate the loss of lubricating properties of oils.
It is absolutely unacceptable to store a saw for a long time (more than two months) with remaining gasoline in the tank! The gasoline evaporates and the oil remains, causing the membrane responsible for pumping fuel to stick, making the saw either not start at all or very difficult.
