Grippferon - description of the drug, instructions for use, reviews

Grippferon, nasal drops and spray is an effective and safe drug for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections (ARD, ARVI) and influenza.

It is approved for use even in children under one year of age (including newborns) and pregnant women. The main active ingredient of Grippferon is highly active recombinant (obtained by genetic engineering) interferon alpha-2b.

The drug is absolutely safe from virus contamination, which is very important in the age of widespread hepatitis B, C, D, HIV, CMV and other blood-borne infections.

Composition and release form

The drug is available in the form of a spray and drops for topical use.

The spray is a liquid, transparent solution with a faint yellow tint. Sold in a 10 ml bottle and secondary paper packaging. The set includes a dispenser.

The drops are a yellow medicinal solution. Packaged in plastic bottles of 5 and 10 ml with a dropper for convenient use. Sold in 1 bottle in a cardboard box and attached instructions for use.

Active substance, regardless of form: recombinant alpha-2b interferon of the human body. Additional components: sodium chloride, pure water, macrogol, povidone, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, edetate dihydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate.

How to store the drug according to the instructions?

Unopened “Grippferon” in the form of drops is stored for exactly 2 years if the temperature is maintained - the product remains active only in the refrigerator at 2-8 ° C. Opened packaging should also be kept refrigerated, but no more than a month after opening.

For convenience, you can carry the product with you during the day, and put it away in the cold only at night - in such conditions, the interferon included in the product will not lose its activity. “Grippferon” does not spoil instantly if it is not put in the refrigerator immediately, but gradually the activity of its components begins to decrease , and treatment with it certainly becomes useless. The longer the product is at room temperature, the lower its activity becomes.

If the drug has been left at room temperature for several days or weeks before or after opening, its effectiveness is completely lost.

If the product is given to a child, then before use you can “warm” it for some time at room temperature, but in no case should you place it in hot water to warm it up, place it on a radiator, etc. At the same time, it is not necessary to wait until the product reaches room temperature - even if you drop the product cold into children, they will not be able to get sick from it, since a few drops of liquid in the nasal cavity will warm up very quickly.

The drug in the form of a spray and ointment is stored in a similar way and for the same amount of time. Under no circumstances should the product be used after the expiration date.

It is impossible to determine whether the drug immediately becomes spoiled if storage conditions are violated (no matter freezing or heating), since no such clinical studies have been conducted. The product is guaranteed to retain its beneficial properties only at the specified temperature.

pharmachologic effect

Nasal spray and drops have a wide range of therapeutic effects. They have a clear anti-inflammatory, antiviral and immunomodulatory effect.

The drug is intended for the treatment and prevention of influenza conditions and various viral infections.

Due to local administration, it ensures prolonged interaction of the active substance with the nasal mucosa. Against this background, specific immunity is developed and the body’s susceptibility to pathologies increases.

Grippferon does not provoke drug addiction and does not require the prescription of additional symptomatic drugs.

The unique composition of the drug perfectly dries the mucous membrane, has an adsorbing effect, increasing the healing properties of the main substance.

Action of Grippferon: why it is prescribed to adults and children, indications for use

Doctors prescribe medicine for adults and children in the following cases: indications for use:

  • Colds
  • The appearance of respiratory infections
  • As preventive measures against acute respiratory viral infections and influenza
  • Immune system stimulation
  • Living in an epidemiological focus of respiratory diseases

Pediatricians prescribe Grippferon if they suspect the onset of a cold, as well as for preventive purposes if the child is prone to frequent colds.

Worth knowing: Despite the immunostimulating effect, it should be noted that Grippferon does not have an effect on chemical irritation of the nasal mucosa, polyps, adenoids, and bacterial infections. And with an allergic rhinitis, medicine can only complicate the disease.

Even at the very beginning of using the drug, its beneficial effects can be noted:

  • The symptoms of the disease decrease: sore throat decreases, headache disappears, body temperature drops.
  • At the first signs of a cold, Grippferon completely stops the inflammatory process, preventing it from developing into complications.
  • Taking the drug significantly reduces the duration of the disease.
  • The use of Grippferon as a prophylaxis protects against the development of viral infection by 90% .

But for the medicine to have such an effect, it is important to store it correctly. Read more below.

GRIPPFERON - reliable protection against viruses

January. The season of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) is in full swing. It is known that the main route of transmission of ARVI pathogens is airborne. Infection occurs through contact with a patient with ARVI. Different thoughts come to mind when on public transport we hear the sneezing of a passenger standing next to us or our interlocutor is a person who coughs and often uses a handkerchief. How to protect yourself and especially children from ARVI infection? We don’t have a mask at hand, and somehow we haven’t yet learned how to wear one in front of people without any complexes. Fortunately, there is a way out. Recently, Russian scientists have developed a new drug, GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS produced by Firn-M CJSC (Russia), the active substance of which is a natural protective protein that has an antiviral effect - interferon alpha, produced when viral particles enter the human body. Unfortunately, the production of interferon alpha in the human body is often “delayed”, since the production of the required amount of this substance requires a certain time, during which the virus has time to multiply. As a result, a person gets sick with ARVI. Now we can help our body - fill the missing amount of “our” interferon alpha with GRIPFERON, NOSAL DROPS. Moreover, one bottle of the drug is enough for use throughout the entire ARVI season. It can also be prescribed to children aged 1 year and older.

WHAT IS INTERFERON?

During a viral infection, lymphocytes synthesize alpha interferon, releasing it into the intercellular space, where it binds to specific receptors of neighboring uninfected cells. Interferon alpha exhibits its antiviral effect by triggering certain biochemical mechanisms in neighboring cells, which lead, in particular, to the activation of “silent” endonuclease, an enzyme that cleaves the viral mRNA and causes its degradation. The final effect of interferon alpha is the formation of a barrier of uninfected cells around the site of viral infection, preventing its spread.

BENEFITS OF GRIPFERON, NOSAL DROPS

The drug GRIPFERON, NOSAL DROPS (interferon alpha) contains human recombinant interferon alpha 2b as an active substance. Gripferon, nasal drops - an effective medicine used for emergency prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections. The dosage form of the drug has no analogues in the world and is protected by an international patent. Since the active substance of the drug was obtained by genetic engineering and not isolated from human blood, it does not pose a threat of infection with dangerous infectious agents that are transmitted through blood (HIV, hepatitis B and C viruses, cytomegalovirus, prions, etc.). Despite the fact that high technologies are used to produce human recombinant interferon alpha 2b, the cost of the final product is cheaper than a similar active substance isolated from human blood, due to the absence of the need to carry out expensive measures aimed at identifying infectious pathogens and disinfecting blood products.

With the help of properly selected excipients (polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene oxide and Trilon B), the drug acquires certain physicochemical properties; the composition of the human recombinant interferon alpha 2b in solution remains stable for two years. In addition, excipients ensure prolonged contact of interferon with the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity. Therefore, with the intranasal use of GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS, a reliable protective barrier is created directly at the site of the primary introduction and reproduction of airborne viruses (influenza A and B viruses, parainfluenza, rhinoviruses, reoviruses, adenoviruses, etc.).

When using the drug topically, unlike parenteral administration, antibodies are not formed that neutralize the activity of human recombinant interferon alpha 2b.

CLINICAL RESEARCHES

The therapeutic and prophylactic effect of GRIPFERON, NOSE DROPS, was evaluated in various clinical studies. The results of studies obtained in 1999–2000 are presented in the form of official reports from the heads of medical institutions in which they were carried out. During the research, it was found that thanks to the use of GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS, the development of nosocomial respiratory infections and infection of children with ARVI was not observed (Feliksova L. et al., 2001).

The preventive effect of GRIPPHERON, NOSE DROPS, was studied in organized groups. The drug was prescribed to children who were in sanatoriums of various profiles during the seasonal increase in the incidence of ARVI. It has been established that the use of GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS, provides a pronounced preventive effect, which is manifested by a significant reduction in the incidence of ARVI (Shumilov V.I. et al., 2000).

The use of GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in the adult population of Moscow during the period of seasonal increase in the incidence of influenza and ARVI ensured a significant reduction of 2.4–3.5 times compared with individuals in the control group who did not receive GRIPPFERON, DROPS In NOS (Shumilov V.I. et al., 2000).

Application

1 ml of GRIPFERON, NOSAL DROPS contains at least 10,000 IU of human recombinant interferon alpha 2b. It is a clear, colorless, slightly viscous liquid that has antiviral, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.

The indication for the use of GRIPPFERON, NOSAL DROPS is the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections in children over the age of one year and in adults in the initial stages of the disease (days 1–3). At the first signs of influenza or other acute respiratory viral infections, GRIPPFERON, NOSAL DROPS are used for 5 days:

  • at the age of 1 year to 3 years, 2 drops in each nasal passage 3 times a day (single dose 2000 IU, daily dose - 6000 IU);
  • at the age of 3 to 14 years, 2 drops in each nasal passage 4 times a day (single dose 2000 IU, daily dose - 8000 IU);
  • adults: 3 drops in each nasal passage every 3-4 hours (single dose 3000 IU, daily dose - up to 24,000 IU).

For the purpose of prevention, GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS are used in an age-specific dose 2 times a day throughout the entire time of contact with the patient. If necessary, preventive courses are repeated. After each procedure, it is recommended to massage the wings of the nose for several minutes to evenly distribute the drug in the nasal cavity.

No serious side effects have been identified when using GRIPFERON, NOSE DROPS. Contraindications to the use of the drug are individual intolerance and severe forms of allergic diseases, pregnancy, since clinical studies of its safety in pregnant women have not been conducted.

Gripferon, nasal drops, is available in a dropper bottle made of polymer material containing 10 ml of a drug with antiviral activity of at least 10,000 IU/ml. The package contains one bottle of the drug and instructions for use. The use of intranasal vasoconstrictors in combination with GRIPPFERON, NOSAL DROPS is not recommended, since the latter exhibits an anti-edematous effect.

Thus, GRIPPFERON, NOSE DROPS, is a modern effective antiviral drug, characterized by a direct impact on the etiological cause of ARVI. It can be successfully used for individual prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in persons over the age of 1 year. Gripferon, nasal drops, is easy to use, practically does not cause adverse reactions and can be used for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in children and adults.

How to take Grippferon for prevention

To prevent influenza and viral diseases, the drug is used according to a special scheme depending on the form of release:

  • Drops - as a result of close interaction with an infected person or against the background of hypothermia, the medicine is instilled once in the morning and in the evening. The dose depends on the age of the patient. When an epidemic outbreak develops, drops are used once every other day.
  • Spray - if there is a high risk of infection with influenza and viruses, a one-time use of the product 2 times a day is recommended. In case of a surge in incidence, it is prescribed in the morning once every 1-2 days.

Based on the indications, the prophylactic course of taking Grippferon can be repeated.

Pharmacodynamics

Urgent prevention in case of possible contact with a pathogen reduces the risk of getting sick by more than 90%. After administration, the drug acts on respiratory viral particles, preventing them from multiplying and penetrating deep into the body through the mucous membranes.

Grippferon is effective against a wide range of pathogens: adenoviruses, rotaviruses, rhinoviruses, coronaviruses and others. During the course of treatment, the solution moderately reduces the inflammatory reaction, slightly dries the epithelium, and helps eliminate cold symptoms.

From the first hours of using the drug, the secretion of mucus from the nose decreases, body temperature stabilizes, headaches and general malaise decrease. At an early stage of the disease, complete relief of its symptoms is possible. Later treatment helps prevent the complicated course of ARVI: the development of otitis, sinusitis, pneumonia.

The medicine does not have a negative effect on the functioning of internal organs and systems. Its properties are not affected by the simultaneous use of symptomatic remedies: against cough, throat and nose congestion. There is no addiction or withdrawal syndrome after using Grippferon.

Application and dosage

For prevention, drops and spray are used throughout the day, applied to clean nasal mucous membranes 1–2 times a day:

  • after contact with infected people;
  • after hypothermia or prolonged exposure to the street.

The dose is adjusted according to age: from 1 to 3 drops or aerosol presses into each nostril.

To treat an existing disease, the solution is used 4 to 6 times a day. It is allowed to use the medicine at night. Course duration: up to 5–7 days.
