At the bottom you need to put a film on which the already peeled berries will fall, this way you can significantly reduce the mechanical negative impact. The fruits should not be poured out too quickly so that the total mass rolls off slowly and all the debris has time to fall.

Cleaning with a vacuum cleaner

Dry fruits are poured into a wide sieve in small portions, so they can move freely during the cleaning process. Direct an air flow through the cells, the berries will roll, thus it will be possible to sift out the lighter weight debris, however, if the berries have lain for some time after picking, additional sorting is necessary. It is better to set the vacuum cleaner to medium power so as not to spoil the fruit.

Cleaning by sifting in the wind

In a strong wind, pour the berries from one container to another at a height of 1.5 meters. This method is used in open areas in a field, on the banks of a river. Repeat pouring 3 to 5 times. You can place soft fabric, such as felt or knitwear, in the container located below to avoid shocks when falling from a height.

The method is not suitable for overripe berries picked at the very end of the season. After sifting, such a crop should be processed within 24 hours.

Cleaning on rough surfaces

The gutter, made of textured material, is installed at an angle and covered with a thick towel, for example, a so-called waffle towel. The berries will roll down the towel, and large debris in the form of leaves and twigs will remain on the fabric. To make such a simple device, you can use wood, mesh, or thick cardboard.

Lingonberries soaked with apples

To prepare you will need:

  • 1 kg of lingonberries;
  • 5 glasses of water;
  • 500 g Chinese apples;
  • 3 cups granulated sugar.

Preparation:

  1. Wash the lingonberries and place in a prepared container (alternating with thoroughly washed apples).
  2. Pour all this over the prepared and completely cooled syrup.
  3. Then everything is done in the same way as when soaking one lingonberry.
  4. Instead of Chinese apples, you can take any other apples (Antonov apples are best), which are cut in half before cooking.
  5. To add flavor, you can use lemon zest or cloves with cinnamon. The syrup is boiled with these spices, then it needs to be strained.

The process of preserving berries for the winter:

Lingonberries, unlike other berries, can be stored for quite a long time - from 12 months to 2-3 years. But this is the case if it is frozen entirely, in its pure form. Prepared in other ways, for example, with sugar, ground, it can be stored for up to a year.

Lingonberry water

In addition to the lingonberry berries themselves, lingonberry water also has almost the same healing properties. Her recipe is simple and easy to prepare. We take ingredients based on 1 kg of lingonberries.

Method #1 (quick):

  1. Pour the berries into a bowl, fill with water so that the level is 2-3 cm above the surface of the berries.
  2. Wash the lingonberries.
  3. Remove floating debris.
  4. Rinse again.
  5. Drain the remaining water through a colander.
  6. Boil 2 liters of water in a 5 liter enamel container.
  7. Cool the water to 70 degrees and add the berries. (If desired, you can sweeten the water slightly before adding the berries).
  8. Cover with a lid and let sit until the water cools.
  9. Drain the water through a colander into a suitable container, and you can drink it with pleasure. In this case, a certain amount of vitamins and nutrients will be lost, but this deficiency is compensated by the speed of preparation.

Method No. 2 (long):

  1. The first 6 points - peeling the berries and boiling water - remain unchanged.
  2. Then cool the water to room temperature.
  3. In this case, there is no need to add sugar.
  4. Pour lingonberries into glass jars (up to half the volume in each jar) and fill almost to the top with cold water.
  5. Cover with plastic lids and store in a cool place.
  6. Leave for 2-2.5 weeks.

When the color of the water turns deep pink, the lingonberry water is ready to drink. If desired, the berries can be sprinkled with sugar while eating.

Recipes for canning lingonberries

During the canning process, the berries are heat treated and pasteurized, and the containers are sterilized and hermetically sealed. Thanks to this, the fruits can be stored at room temperature for several years.

To preserve lingonberries, you can make a fruit drink, make jam, or make jam. If desired, the berries can be left untouched and preserved in their natural form.


Lingonberry jam is an almost homogeneous mass obtained from berries twisted with sugar.

For canning, it is very important to properly prepare the container. Glass jars and lids must first be washed well and then sterilized. This can be done in several ways: in a pan of water by boiling, steaming, in the oven and even in the microwave.

Small jars are easiest to sterilize in a saucepan. They must be carefully placed on the bottom and filled to the top with water. You can place metal lids nearby. Over medium heat, bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat slightly and leave the container to sterilize for 10-30 minutes, depending on its volume. Liter jars are sterilized for 10 minutes, and three-liter jars, respectively, for 30 minutes.

Jars can also be sterilized by steam. To do this, place a special stand with recesses for cans or a grill on a large pan of water. The jars are placed with the neck down and after the water boils, they are left to sterilize for 10-30 minutes.


Such sterilization significantly reduces the risk of “bloating” of the jars.

The oven can sterilize many jars of different sizes at one time. To do this, you need to wash them and place them in the oven, wet, on a baking sheet or wire rack, neck down. The oven should be turned on only after all the containers have been assembled and heated to 150 °C. The jars are sterilized in this way for about half an hour. Metal lids can also be sterilized in the oven, but only if they do not have rubber inserts.

Regardless of the sterilization method, the jars become very hot during the process, so they should only be handled with a towel or a special glove.

Pears soaked with lingonberries

Ingredients

  • 10 kg of pears;
  • 1.5 kg lingonberries.

Filling (per 10 liters of water):

  • 10 tsp. curdled milk;
  • 2 tbsp. l. salt;
  • 1 tbsp. l. dry mustard.

Preparation:

  1. Place the pears in rows, sprinkle with lingonberries and arrange with blackcurrant leaves.
  2. Pour in cold wort, cover with a cloth, place a circle and a bend. Store for the first 8-10 days at a temperature of 18-22°C, making sure that the top layer of pears is covered with must and, if necessary, supplement it.
  3. Then transfer it to a cool place for further fermentation.
  4. After 1.5 months, the pears will be ready to eat.

How to defrost correctly

Lingonberries are defrosted in several ways:

  • place the jar/container with berry contents in a saucepan and fill with warm water for 20 minutes;
  • Place the berries on a plate lined with paper towels;
  • rinse the sealed bag under warm running water;
  • transfer the workpiece to the refrigerator for 10-11 hours.

  • drinking water – 2.5 l;
  • honey – 0.15 l.

  1. It is necessary to put the berries in a colander, rinse under the tap, allow all the liquid to drain and spread on a kitchen towel, allowing to dry.
  2. Next, you need to boil the water, after passing it through a filter, and let it cool quite a bit.
  3. When the liquid reaches 60°C (approximately), honey should be completely dissolved in it.
  4. Carefully pour all the berries into a sterilized 3-liter jar and fill it with sweet syrup. The water should cover the fruit by about 3 fingers.
  5. The neck of the container needs to be rewound with a piece of gauze and the contents allowed to brew for 5 days.
  6. Now you need to close it with a plastic lid and store the product in a cool place (cellar, refrigerator).

The preparation can be served as a healthy dessert with hot tea, the liquid can be strained, and the berries can be used as a filling for dumplings or open pastries. The remaining juice is best consumed to boost immunity during the cold season.

Most of us buy lingonberries in a store or market. In stores, lingonberries are mainly sold frozen. Therefore, great care must be taken when buying berries on the market.
