Regidron
Regidron
(lat.
Rehydron
) - a medicine used for oral rehydration in order to compensate for fluid loss by the body, normalize water-electrolyte balance, and correct the acid-base environment. Available in the form of a powder for the preparation of a solution for oral administration, packaged in aluminum bags. The powder is white crystalline, the solution is transparent, colorless and odorless, with a salty-sweet taste.
Active ingredient: rehydron
The active ingredient of rehydron is a combination of dextrose and potassium and sodium salts: glucose + potassium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium citrate
(lat.
dextrose + potassium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium citrate
).
Note. The terms “dextrose” and “glucose” are synonymous.
One sachet of rehydron is intended for the preparation of one dose of oral solution and contains 18.9 g of powder, including:
Ingredient | Contents of one sachet of rehydron
quantity, g | in terms of 1 liter of ready solution, mmol
glucose (dextrose) anhydrous | 10 | 55,5 |
potassium chloride | 2,5 | 33,5 |
sodium chloride | 3,5 | 59,9 |
sodium citrate | 2,9 | 11,2 |
The osmolality of the rehydron solution is 260 mOsm/l, the prepared solution has an alkaline value of 8.2. The osmolarity of rehydron is less than the osmolarity of the so-called “classic” oral rehydration salts (311 mOsm/l), which were recommended by WHO and UNICEF more than 30 years ago, and is close to the osmolarity of the “improved” oral rehydration salts (approximately 245 mOsm/l), recommended WHO and UNICEF in 2006.
Indications for use of rehydron
- oral rehydration therapy for acute diarrhea with mild (3 to 5% weight loss) or moderate (6 to 10% weight loss) dehydration
- restoration of water-electrolyte balance, correction of acidosis in acute diarrhea (including cholera), in case of heat injuries associated with disturbances of water-electrolyte metabolism
- for the purpose of prevention - thermal and physical stress leading to intense sweating
Method of application of rehydron and dose
The contents of the sachet are dissolved in one liter of cold, freshly boiled water. The solution is drunk without connecting it with meals.
- for diarrhea: 50–100 ml every 3–5 minutes or through a nasogastric tube for 3–5 hours; The daily dose of rehydron for mild disease is from 40 to 50 ml of solution per kg of patient weight, for moderate severity - from 80 to 100 ml of solution per kg of weight
- maintenance treatment for diarrhea: from 80 to 100 ml of solution per kg of patient weight per day until diarrhea stops and water-electrolyte metabolism is restored
- for heat cramps, polyuria, thirst: 500–900 ml in portions of 100–150 ml during the first 30 minutes and then repeat every 40 minutes until symptoms disappear.
Use of rehydron in pregnant women, breastfeeding and children
In recommended doses, rehydron can be prescribed during pregnancy, breastfeeding and children of any age.
Other medicines containing the active ingredients dextrose + potassium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium citrate
In Russia, in addition to rehydron, the following drugs with the active substance dextrose + potassium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium citrate are registered
: Gidrovit, Gidrovit forte, Citraglucosolan, Trihydron, which differ (may differ) in different contents and proportions of glucose and salts.
Regidron Optim is registered in Kazakhstan

Recommendations for use of dietary supplement Regidron Bio: how to dilute
Sometimes, not figuring out how to make Regidron Bio for a child, parents dilute each sachet in a separate glass and give it to them to drink one by one. This is incorrect - the contents of both bags are poured into one container at the same time.
Another common mistake is using hot or cold water. The instructions for Regidron Bio say that it should be at room temperature.
Do not use saline solution for more than 4 days: if there is no improvement, consult your doctor to prescribe a comprehensive therapeutic course.
"Regidron Bio" - complete rehydration for infections
What is rotavirus infection?
Rotavirus is an intestinal infection, which is called one of the “dirty hands” diseases, because its source is food and household items - everything that is within a child’s reach. At the same time, sanitary conditions and a high level of personal hygiene have almost no effect on morbidity.
2-3 days after entering the body, the infection reaches the intestines, causing severe diarrhea. Diarrhea is the main symptom of an intestinal infection. As a rule, diarrhea in children is always provoked by rotavirus.
Rotavirus often causes the development of acute viral gastroenteritis in children, which is characterized by toxicosis coupled with dehydration, which determines the severity of the disease and its outcome. Significant loss of fluid is the danger of various childhood infections. It is rehydration, replenishing the body of water and salts, that becomes the main goal of rotavirus therapy.
How to determine dehydration in a child?
Since the child himself cannot say that he is dehydrated, parents must determine this by a number of signs. These signs are:
- Dry tongue and mucous membranes, decreased secretion of saliva and tears.
- General weakness, thirst, anxiety, agitation, convulsions.
- Urinary retention.
Due to diarrhea and dehydration, a child may also experience accompanying symptoms such as fever, difficulty breathing, and loss of consciousness. According to doctors, if there is a child in the house, then the home medicine cabinet must certainly have rehydration products. These are special salt powders that are diluted with water and given to a child when dehydrated.
How to properly help with dehydration?
The main goal of treating intestinal infections in children has been and remains the prevention of critical dehydration. To do this, it is recommended that the child be given Regidron Bio . "Regidron Bio" - helps restore water and electrolyte balance, as well as maintain normal intestinal microflora. The drug contains electrolytes, the deficiency of which is observed in cases of dehydration and fluid loss in children. Rehydration therapy "Regidron Bio" leads to a decrease in the duration and severity of symptoms of rotavirus gastroenteritis, thanks to the combination of a solution with the recommended composition with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG. Timely use of Regidron Bio will help avoid the serious consequences of dehydration.
"Regidron Bio" is a correct and effective aid for dehydration.

Components
The dietary supplement is sold in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. The package contains 5 pairs of double sachets - A and B with different compositions. Each weighs 6.4 g.
Sachet A includes live gram-positive probiotics - lactobacilli Ramnosus GG. These are natural antagonists that suppress the growth of pathogenic microbiota - the one that caused the disease.
Another component of the powder is corn starch maltodextrin, a prebiotic component that serves as a breeding ground for colonized bacteria.
Packet B is multi-component and contains a more varied composition:
- Silicon dioxide is an absorbent substance
- Sodium citrate (sodium citric acid), which improves cellular respiration and metabolic processes
- Sodium and potassium chlorides are electrolyte salts that restore water-salt metabolism in the body and prevent fluid loss
- Glucose, which is easily absorbed even by irritable intestines
- Auxiliary components that make the drink taste more pleasant
The concentration of salts and glucose is selected so that the active substances of the solution are optimally absorbed.
